Applus+ Gometrics has recently incorporated a state-of-the-art wind tunnel at its facilities in Palau-solità i Plegamans (Barcelona), developed by the company’s team of
specialists and engineers. This strategic investment reinforces Applus+ Gometrics’ position as a reference calibration laboratory and will significantly expand the portfolio of accredited calibration services.
Technical capabilities of the new equipment
The new wind tunnel allows traceable calibration of air velocity measuring instruments with the following specifications:
Calibratable instruments:
- Hot wire anemometers (thermal anemometers)
- Turbine and cup anemometers
- Ultrasonic anemometers
- Pitot tubes and differential pressure probes
- Measurement systems for HVAC and industrial ventilation
Current calibration ranges:
- Speed: 1 m/s to 30 m/s
- Expanded uncertainty: ≤ 2% (k=2)
- Traceability: national and international standards
Planned extension: in the first quarter of 2026, the calibration range will be extended from 0.01 m/s to 5 m/s, enabling calibration of critical instrumentation for pharmaceutical, clean room and biosafety laboratories, where accurate control of laminar flows is an essential regulatory requirement(ISO 14644, GMP Annex 1).
